①evolve

evolve的本义是进化，也表示发展使逐步形成。

②expand

这个词指（尺寸、数量或重要性）扩大，增加。

They expanded their retail operations during the 1980s.

20世纪80年代他们扩大了零售业务。

③gain momentum/strength

momentum的意思是势头；动力；strength就是强度；力度；力量。

gain momentum/strength翻译为发展加快；势头增大。

④shape up

这个短语也表示进展；发展。
