有时候，我们在写作中偶尔替换一下我们不常用的词汇，可以取得立竿见影的效果，瞬间可以让我们的英文作文变得高大上。

1．occur 替换 think of

我突然想到有人闯进了我的房子。

Suddenly I had an idea that someone had broken into my house. →

An idea occurred to me that someone had broken into my house.

It occurred to me that someone had broken into my house.

2．devote 替换 spend

他把所有的业余时间都花在读书上。

He spends all his spare time in reading. →

He devotes all his spare time to reading.

3．seek 替换 want / look for

他们设法躲在树后。

They sought ( wanted ) to hide themselves behind the trees.

4．average 替换 ordinary

我是个普通的学生。

I’m an average ( ordinary ) student.

5．but 替换 very

我们昨晚看的那部电影很有趣。

The film we saw last night was very interesting. →

The film we saw last night was nothing but interesting. The film we saw last night was anything but boring.

6．seat 替换 sit

在上学的路上，他发现一位老太太坐在路边，看上去很着急。

On his way to school, he found an old lady seated (sitting) by the road, looking worried.

7．suppose 替换 should

他本该开得慢一些。

He is supposed to ( should ) have driven more slowly.

8．appreciate 替换 thank

非常感谢你的帮助。

Thank you very much for you help. →

We appreciate your help very much. / Your help is much appreciated.

9．the case 替换 true

我认为情况并非如此。

I don’t think it is the case ( true ).

10．on 替换 as soon as

他一到就开始研究。

As soon as he arrived, he began his research. → On his arrival, he began his research..

11．due to 替换 because of

由于暴风雨，他来晚了。

He arrived late due to ( because of ) the storm.

12．cover 替换 walk/read

走了10英里后，我们都感到累了。

After covering (walking) 10 miles, we all felt tired.

13．contribute to 替换 be helpful/useful

大量的记忆工作对英语学习无疑是有帮助的。

Plenty of memory work is undoubtedly helpful to English study. →

Plenty of memory work will undoubtedly contribute to English study.

14．round the corner 替换 coming soon/ nearby

暑假马上来了(未来)。你有什么计划吗?

① The summer vacation is round the corner ( coming). Do you have any plans?

 李明研究在一所学校附近(附近)。

② Li Ming studies in a school round the corner (nearby).
